Holden Jernværk was founded in 1657, and later became Ulefos Jernværk. The iron foundry was purchased by Didrik Cappelen in 1835; today it is one of the oldest and most tradition-rich companies in Norway.
In the early days, production consisted of cannonballs and gradually transitioned to the famous wood-burning ovens.
Street castings were introduced in 1952 and are now the company’s most important areas of production. 

Ulefos Jernværk has a broad range of products, our assortment includes nearly 1000 varieties of manhole covers. The company received its first ISO license in 1989. We are committed to employ experienced staff and use modern technology, together we aim to meet the highest demands of precision.
We continually conduct quality-control in every stage of the production, always customized to the requirements and specifications of each commission.

Our ductile iron product range is EN 124-certified and our cast-iron range is produced according to EN 124 requirements, the European standard for gullytops and manhole covers for vehicle and pedestrian areas.

Our production plant are both ISO 9001 and 14001 certified.
When our casted products are sent to our customers, they are protected by environment friendly water-based paint.
